Elder Program


The Southcentral Foundation Elder Program provides a wide range of assistance to Alaska Native and American Indian Elders who live in the Anchorage area. Its aim is to promote a lifestyle of independence and mobility for its participants, aged 55 and over.



Provided services are based on identified needs and may include:

  • Home visits by an Elder provider
  • Help with filling out forms
  • Guidance with accessing community resources—Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, public assistance, housing, Alaska Native Medical Center, etc.
  • Chore service
  • Interpretation/Translation
  • Notary public
  • Lunch program
  • Group activities: beading, games, bingo, arts & crafts, potlucks, outings, Elder provider visits


One of the primary goals of the Elder Program is to make the job of a family caregiver easier. The Family Caregiver Support Initiative (FCSI) is an effort to provide these individuals with such help, especially when the circumstances require the use of outside professional interventions.
