The Family Medicine Clinic (FMC) at the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center is the principal source for general outpatient care at Southcentral Foundation. This is where people come to see their provider for everything from a common cold to a sprained ankle.
Medical practice at FMC is divided into more than two dozen “panels,” each of which is headed by a health care provider—physician, advanced nurse practitioner or physician assistant. When a customer wants to be seen at FMC, they first need to enroll into one of these panels (phone 907-729-3376).
When customer see their FMC provider during an appointment, the provider will offer a “first–line” evaluation and treatment. However, in some cases, the provider will want to refer the customer to either a specialist (like an orthopedic doctor or dermatologist) or a specialized clinic (like diabetes or complementary medicine). The provider will also often order tests from radiology or the laboratory at this time.
Adjunct procedures available at FMC include:
Providers at FMC offer services for people of all ages, including children. Children can also be seen at the Pediatric Clinic, and this is a matter of parental choice.
Because the number of obstetric providers at FMC is limited, it may sometimes be necessary for pregnant women to go to the Women’s Health Clinic (WHC) for this course of care. A woman may also need to go to WHC if her pregnancy is considered to be one of higher risk.
