Camai! Welcome!

SCF CEO Katherine Gottlieb wearing a traditional headpiece and dress in the Primary Care Center's front lobby.

We have a great story to tell; and it is due to the individuals, teams and organizations walking along side of us.

Southcentral Foundation has a dynamic Alaska Native Board of Directors that is very responsive to the changing needs of healthcare. Dedicated, creative, and hardworking individuals and teams are employed within our ranks.

Others who journey with us include a group of sister nonprofits and affiliates under Cook Inlet Region, Inc., our tribal authority; local agencies of like interests; government, state, municipal and foundation groups.

We have redesigned the primary care system to be more responsive to our customer-owners’ needs. We have initiated an aggressive campaign on domestic violence, child abuse and child neglect. As of November 16, 2006, all facilities owned by Southcentral Foundation will be smoke and tobacco free. We have provision for health education and prevention to include smoking cessation classes, well-baby clinics and diabetes work groups. We have started a pilot project, Denaa Yeets’, to address suicide.

We are making strides toward wellness, yet we still face big challenges. Our target population of Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is growing as people from the villages move to town while our base budget has little increase. Cancer is the number one killer of Alaska Native people. Heart disease and diabetes are on the rise as the population we serve is getting older. Suicide, domestic violence, child abuse and child neglect still remain top behavioral health needs. Alcohol and drug abuse are still heath problems, as well.

Southcentral Foundation is keeping an eye on the future. We are watching for sustainability to include all areas, services, funding, culture and management. We are focusing on how to make everything work more efficiently while holding down costs. We are watching our resource and funding base. We are training and mentoring our next generation while keeping our culture.

It has taken several years to arrive at where we are today, and we believe there is still much more to improve and enhance. We continue to listen to our customer-owners and, as funding allows, change systems and delivery to meet current challenges. We welcome you to pray for our endeavors, and God bless.
