Named with an Alaska Native word that can mean either “thank you” or “welcome,” Quyana Clubhouse is dedicated to providing a safe and agreeable place where adults with persistent mental illness may find community and develop self-sufficiency. There are no “clients” at the Clubhouse, only “members”; and the program honors the dignity of each one by encouraging his or her physical, mental, social, and economic wellness.
Quyana Clubhouse began in 1993 with three members. More than 160 customers have been served since then, and many of them are now employed at jobs for which they gained the necessary skills and confidence at the program.
The staff at Quyana Clubhouse provides case management, medication management, skill development services, and individual and group therapy for the members.
Members and staff work together to manage Quyana Clubhouse as a business. Activities are divided into three distinct “units”-caf support, clerical support, and member support-and each of these helps members develop new job skills. Among the activities conducted by the units are:
